D.J’s Driver Training — Terms and Conditions

1. Your instructor and contact details

Driving tuition is provided by Daniel (Dan) Johnson, trading as D.J’s Driver Training.

● Telephone: 07800 864 926

● Email: info@djsdrivertraining.co.uk

● Website: www.djsdrivertraining.co.uk

● Business postal address: 28 High Riding, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 4NX

These terms will be supplied in a form you can save before you agree to tuition. Please ask if anything is unclear. Any additional conditions for an intensive course will be provided before booking.

2. Licence, eyesight and fitness to drive

You must be legally entitled to drive the category of vehicle used for your lessons. Most pupils must be at least 17, although lawful exceptions may apply. You must present a valid licence and provide information reasonably needed to check your driving entitlement before driving.

You must meet the legal eyesight standards, including reading a number plate from 20 metres, and wear glasses or contact lenses whenever needed to meet those standards.

Tell me promptly about changes to your licence, restrictions, health or medication that may affect your ability to drive safely. You are responsible for notifying DVLA about a condition where the law requires this; not every medication or condition is automatically reportable.

You must be fit to drive and must not be impaired by alcohol, drugs, medication, illness or fatigue. Tell me before the lesson if there is a concern so we can discuss a safe arrangement.

3. Lessons, prices and payment

Standard lessons last 2 hours and cost £88. Current advance booking prices are:

|Tuition hours|Price |
|-------------|-----:|
  10 hours    £420
  20 hours    £840
  30 hours    £1,260|
  40 hours    £1,680|

The agreed price, duration, collection point and payment arrangements will be confirmed before booking. Prices are the total payable for the stated tuition. Practical and theory test fees are separate unless expressly included in a written quotation.

Payments may be made by cash or bank transfer. Individual lessons are payable before or at the start of the lesson; block bookings are payable before the first lesson in the block.

I will keep accurate records of payments, lessons and hours delivered, protect advance payments and provide a statement on request. Any future price change will be explained before you book or pay; it will not change the price of tuition already paid for.

Tuition includes practical driving, demonstrations, explanations, feedback and progress reviews. The balance will reflect your learning needs. I cannot guarantee a pass or a fixed number of hours to reach test standard.

4. Cancelling or rearranging a lesson

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or rearrange a lesson. With that notice, there is no cancellation charge.

Contact me directly using our agreed communication method: telephone, SMS/text message, email or the business Facebook messaging service. Please keep evidence of your message. I will acknowledge it as soon as reasonably possible; a delay in my acknowledgement does not invalidate notice sent on time.

For less than 24 hours’ notice or a missed lesson, a charge may apply up to the agreed lesson price. The charge will reflect the reasonable net loss caused by the cancellation, taking account of costs saved and any replacement booking. I will take reasonable steps to refill the slot and will not charge twice for the same time.

Illness or an emergency does not automatically remove a charge, but I will consider individual circumstances fairly. Statutory cancellation rights take priority over this policy.

Further bookings may be paused while an undisputed overdue charge remains unpaid. If you dispute a charge, please contact me so it can be reviewed through the complaints procedure.

5. Lateness and missed lessons

Please be ready at the agreed collection point. If you are delayed, contact me immediately.

If you are absent and have not contacted me, I will attempt to reach you and wait for 10 minutes before treating the lesson as missed. Any charge will be assessed under section 4.

If you arrive late, the lesson will normally finish at the original time because another pupil may be booked afterwards. Any charge for time lost through your lateness will reflect the resulting reasonable net loss.

If I arrive late, I will provide the full booked time where possible and agreed with you. Otherwise you may choose a proportionate refund or credit for the time not provided.

6. Instructor cancellations and unsafe conditions

I will aim to be punctual and reliable. Illness, vehicle faults, severe weather or other circumstances may occasionally require a lesson to be changed or cancelled.

I will notify you as soon as reasonably possible. You will not be charged for tuition I cannot provide, and may choose a refund or an agreed replacement lesson for that time.

Lessons will only proceed where conditions are suitable for safe instruction at your level.

7. Refunds and stopping lessons

You may stop taking lessons at any time. Advance payments are not automatically non-refundable.

Unused tuition will be refunded, less payment for tuition already delivered and any fair cancellation charges under these terms. Delivered hours from a discounted block will be charged at the agreed block hourly rate, without a retrospective increase to the standard rate.

I aim to issue refunds within 14 calendar days of receiving your request and the information needed to process it. Any shorter legal deadline takes priority.

If I end the tuition arrangement, I will explain the reason and refund unused tuition, subject only to valid outstanding charges. Immediate suspension may be necessary where there is a serious safety risk, threats or abusive behaviour.

8. Statutory cooling-off rights

Where the Consumer Contracts Regulations apply to an agreement made online, by telephone or away from my business premises, you have 14 days from entering the service agreement to cancel without giving a reason.

To cancel, send a clear statement by email, text or post using the contact details above. You may use the cancellation form below, but do not have to.

If you want lessons to begin during that period, I will obtain your express request before starting. If you then exercise your cancellation right, you pay only the proportionate amount for services supplied, where the legal requirements for that charge have been met. You lose the right to cancel a fully performed service only after expressly consenting to early performance and acknowledging that consequence.

This right is separate from the ordinary 24-hour lesson cancellation policy.

9. Safe instruction and professional conduct

I commit to the pupil-facing standards in DVSA’s published driving instructor code of practice, including its new code published on 23 September 2026. At the date of this draft, the mandatory commencement date of the new code remains to be confirmed.

You can expect respectful, professional instruction adapted to your ability and needs, in line with the national standard for driver and rider training. I will explain your progress and any further training needed, maintain my professional knowledge and provide tuition with reasonable care and skill.

I will maintain a roadworthy, appropriately insured and legally compliant tuition vehicle, display my ADI badge during paid instruction, and use the required learner plates and additional interior mirror.

I will maintain professional boundaries, avoid discrimination, inappropriate language, intimidation and unnecessary physical contact, and will not enter into a romantic or sexual relationship with a pupil I am instructing.

I will take safeguarding concerns seriously, particularly those involving under-18s or vulnerable adults, and seek appropriate assistance or report concerns where necessary. Please tell me about learning needs or reasonable adjustments that would help you access tuition.

I will not use a mobile phone or hand-held device, or take calls including hands-free calls, while instructing. Before using a tablet for diagrams or progress records, I will park safely and switch the engine off.

10. Safety interventions and pupil conduct

You are expected to treat others respectfully, follow reasonable safety instructions and avoid deliberate dangerous behaviour.

I may use the dual controls, give an urgent instruction or take other necessary action to prevent danger. Interventions will be proportionate to the risk and explained when it is safe to do so.

A lesson may be stopped if continuing would be unsafe. Any charge will reflect tuition already supplied and, where applicable, a fair charge for loss caused by your breach of these terms. Ending a lesson does not automatically make the full fee payable.

11. Driving tests and use of the tuition car

You must book and manage your own car driving test. I cannot book, change, swap or cancel it on your behalf. Please discuss readiness and check my availability before selecting a date if you wish to use my car.

Use of the tuition car is subject to my availability and a reasonable assessment that you can drive safely at test standard. I will discuss any concerns promptly, explain the reasons and advise on further training or postponement. I may withdraw the car where there is a genuine safety or legal concern.

Before you commit to test-day arrangements, I will confirm in writing the total charge, the time included, any pre-test lesson and the applicable cancellation conditions. The DVSA test fee is separate. There will be no undisclosed test-day surcharge.

You must bring the required documentation and any glasses or contact lenses you need. We will agree beforehand whether you want me to accompany you on the test and attend the debrief, subject to DVSA arrangements.

12. Cancelled or disrupted tests

DVSA may cancel or rearrange tests for reasons outside my control. Any tuition or test-day services already provided remain payable. Charges for services not provided will be considered under the fair cancellation provisions above.

DVSA may reimburse certain expenses for eligible cancellations, but reimbursement is not guaranteed. I will provide receipts or booking evidence where needed.

If a test cannot proceed because my vehicle fails to meet the required standard, I will refund the affected test-day services and reimburse the lost test fee where the cancellation is my responsibility. This does not limit any other legal rights you may have.

13. Personal information, photographs and recordings

I will handle personal information lawfully and securely, using it for purposes such as arranging tuition, checking eligibility, recording progress, administering payments and handling complaints.

A separate privacy notice will explain the lawful bases used, retention periods, any service providers or other recipients, and your data protection rights. Information may be disclosed where lawfully necessary, including for safeguarding, legal obligations or an authorised investigation.

Your name, photograph, videos, review or pass details will not be used in marketing without separate explicit written permission. Agreeing to lessons does not give marketing permission, and declining it will not affect your tuition.

Any recording equipment and its purpose will be explained before use, with the appropriate privacy information and consent where required. Driving-test recordings will follow DVSA rules.

14. Complaints

If you have a concern, contact Dan Johnson on 07800 864 926 or info@djsdrivertraining.co.uk. Explain what happened and the outcome you would like.

I will handle complaints professionally, keep a record and aim to acknowledge them within 3 working days and provide a substantive response within 10 working days. If more time is needed, I will explain why and provide an update.

You may contact DVSA directly about instructor conduct or service concerns at instructorconduct@dvsa.gov.uk. You do not have to complete my complaints procedure before reporting a safeguarding or conduct concern. DVSA cannot recover money for you; Citizens Advice can provide guidance on consumer disputes.

15. Your rights and agreement

Nothing in these terms limits your statutory consumer rights or excludes liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

You will be asked to confirm that you have received and understood these terms before tuition begins. Any later changes will be explained and agreed where necessary; they will not remove rights relating to an existing agreement.
