I’m Dan Johnson, and I’ve been a fully qualified driving instructor since August 2011. Having lived in Richmond for most of my life, attended Richmond Secondary School and studied at Richmond Sixth Form, I have strong connections to the local community and an in-depth knowledge of the area’s roads.

From Richmond town centre and the surrounding residential streets to the routes around Catterick, Leyburn and nearby villages, I understand the different challenges local learners face. Whether you’re practising busy junctions, rural roads, hills, roundabouts or the routes commonly used during driving tests, I can help you build the skills and confidence needed to drive safely and comfortably in the area you know.

I live in Richmond with my wife and daughter, so this is more than just the place where I work — it’s our home. I’m proud to run a local business supporting people from Richmond, Catterick, Leyburn and the surrounding communities. Helping local learners gain the freedom and independence that driving brings is something I genuinely care about.

With over 15 years of experience, I’ve taught learners of all ages and abilities, including complete beginners, nervous drivers and those returning to driving. Every pupil learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to suit your needs, experience and confidence level. My aim is not only to help you pass your test, but to prepare you for a lifetime of safe driving on local roads and beyond.

I’m also proud of my experience working with the Ministry of Defence, delivering intensive driving courses. This has strengthened my ability to provide clear, structured and focused tuition while adapting my teaching style to each individual learner.

So far, I’ve helped over 700 learners achieve their driving test pass, and I’m incredibly proud of every one of them. I’m now working towards my long-term ambition of reaching 2,000 passes before I retire — and your success could be the next milestone.
